Whether you’re looking for that perfectly restored Charleston single landscaped with Italian cypresses or a modern, luxury pied-a-terre with a bird’s eye view of the Holy City, John McCollum can help you fulfill your dreams of owning a home in historic downtown Charleston.

John first fell in love with downtown nearly a decade ago, when the Navy stationed him in Charleston following basic training in Chicago. John left the Windy City’s freezing temperatures and was welcomed to the Palmetto state with clear blue skies and 75-degree temperatures. The friendly locals, Southern charm and beautiful beaches of Charleston also didn’t hurt.

Since this time, John has since completed his service with the Navy and officially decided to call Charleston home, living South of Broad for several years and most recently, purchasing a newly-restored Charleston single with his wife Kimberly in downtown’s up-and-coming Westside Neighborhood.

In fact, John found his home the “old fashioned way” – by riding his bicycle around downtown, scouting out construction sites, asking questions about new projects and introducing himself to developers. The Charleston real estate market continues to be hot and because of this, John went the extra mile researching opportunities before they were even listed or completed to ensure his family got their dream home.

Through this process, he developed a passion for helping others make such a similar dream come true, with an emphasis on historical renovations and downtown living. When identifying potential homes for his buyers, John always asks himself, “Would I want to live here myself?” And to ensure that he’s always up-to-date on the latest real estate opportunities for his buyers, John spends a lot of his time walking the cobblestone streets of Charleston and riding around downtown, as well as meeting with downtown’s leading developers and project managers.

Beyond just real estate, he can also point you in the direction of the best rooftop view in downtown, where to catch the last glimpse of the sun setting on the harbor, and tell you more than you’ve ever wanted to know about Charleston’s ties to the country’s founding and Civil War.
